A Singapore to UK pet relocation requires a readable microchip, valid rabies vaccination, the correct Great Britain pet health certificate, an approved carrier and route, and tapeworm treatment for dogs. Singapore export requirements must also be completed before departure.
This guide applies to Great Britain—England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland has a different process and should be assessed separately.

Main requirements for Great Britain
For a non-commercial movement of a dog, cat or ferret from Singapore, preparation normally includes:
- A compliant and readable microchip
- Rabies vaccination administered after, or at the same time as, microchipping
- The required post-vaccination waiting period
- A Great Britain pet health certificate
- Tapeworm treatment for dogs within the required arrival window
- Travel on an approved route with an authorised carrier
- An owner or authorised-person declaration
- Singapore’s AVS export licence and applicable veterinary certification
Additional rules apply if the pet is being sold, rehomed, travelling separately from the owner outside the permitted period, or moving for a commercial purpose.
Microchip and rabies vaccination
The microchip must be implanted before, or at the same time as, the rabies vaccination. The number must be recorded accurately on the health certificate and supporting records.
After a primary rabies vaccination, the UK requires a wait of at least 21 full days before travel. Day one is the day after vaccination. A vaccine manufacturer may specify a longer period, so the actual product record must be checked.
Singapore is listed for the Great Britain pet-travel document process. A Great Britain pet health certificate is required for a pet travelling from Singapore. A rabies blood test is generally associated with countries that are not listed, but the current country status should always be reconfirmed before preparation.
Great Britain pet health certificate
The health certificate must be completed within the prescribed validity period and match the pet’s identity, vaccination and treatment records. Errors in the microchip number, vaccination sequence or certification can delay entry or cause quarantine or return arrangements.
Singapore export procedures may also require a licensed veterinarian’s examination and AVS certificate issuance or endorsement.
Tapeworm treatment for dogs
Dogs normally require treatment for the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. The treatment must be administered by a veterinarian no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before arrival in Great Britain, and the date and time must be recorded correctly.
This requirement does not generally apply to cats.
Approved routes and cargo travel
Pets must enter Great Britain using an approved carrier and route. Approved airlines and arrival airports change, so the current UK list should be checked before booking.
When travelling by plane, pets normally enter as cargo unless they are recognised guide or assistance dogs or are travelling under an applicable private-charter exception. Airline acceptance also depends on crate, breed, aircraft and route restrictions.
Singapore export arrangements
Before departure, the pet requires the applicable AVS export licence and destination veterinary documents. Ground-handler arrangements and any required health-certificate endorsement should be completed within their validity windows.

Frequently asked questions
Does my pet need quarantine in Great Britain?
Compliant dogs, cats and ferrets can normally enter without quarantine. Non-compliance can result in quarantine, return or other enforcement action.
Does a pet from Singapore need a rabies blood test?
Singapore is currently listed for the Great Britain pet-travel document process, and a Great Britain pet health certificate is required. The route should still be checked immediately before preparation because country classifications and rules can change.
Can my pet fly in the cabin to the UK?
For arrival by commercial air into Great Britain, pets generally travel as cargo unless an exception applies. The airline and approved-route list must be checked for the specific journey.
Is the process different for Northern Ireland?
Yes. This page concerns England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland follows a separate process.
